This is an 8.5 x 11" paper shown in "portrait" (vertical) mode.
These cards work best on a 8.5 x 5.5" piece of paper (this is the size of half an 8.5 x 11").
In order to save yourself the headache of trying to print this size on your printer, copy and paste two cards on 8.5 x 11" piece of paper and cut in half after printed (see example at right).
• Use a beautiful piece of textured cardstock like felt, linen or laid to add an extra bit of texture and luxury to your card. These papers work best in an inkjet printer and can be found at any good paper store. Laser printers prefer smooth, non-textured paper (textures can actually hurt a laser printer). Not to fear, if you are using a laser printer find a pretty color or even a shimmer cardstock to add that bit of luxury.
• Don’t be afraid of white space when creating your design. There is no need to fill up the entire front of the card with words or images. You’re design will look more professional if there is a little white space for the eye to rest.
• It’s always fun to put a little note on the back of the card to let the receiver know that this card was made by you just for them.
• Here’s how the document should be laid out in order for the card to fold correctly:
Side A: If you wish to leave the card blank inside, cut and fold cards after they are printed.
• Here’s how the document should be laid out if you want to print a message on the inside of the cards:
Side B: If you are going to print directly on the inside of the card, cut and fold after printing. If you intend to print on the back of Side A, figure this out with regular paper before you print on your nice cardstock.
• If you prefer, print the above layout on a second piece of lighter beautiful paper (maybe in a matching or coordinating color) and insert into blank card attaching it with a piece of double stick tape. You will need to trim the edges of the paper so that it is a little smaller than the outer card so that it can’t be seen when the card is closed.
*Remember that the most important thing about this project is that it’s your creation and you should have fun doing it. These are handmade cards so a little imperfection is to be expected and treasured!
