How do I submit my art for the Chick's Guide?

What is The Chick’s Guide?

The Chick’s Guide is a Web site dedicated to all things cool and crafty, sassy and artistic. We are your resource for all crafts hip and chick-a-liscious.

How often do you update the site?

We hope to update at least one area of the site every two weeks and a major theme update on our home page every month. (Heh, we have kids and boyfriends/spouses, pets and hobbies as well as BOOKS TO PUBLISH! Cut us some slack.)

What does it mean to be “Chick Certified”?

We designate artists and products “Chick Certified” if they are waaaay cool. To be considered as an artist candidate, you’ll need to submit (LINK TO submissions page) your artwork. “Chick Certified” artists should have an established body of work and create art/crafts for sale or operate as work-for-hire or commissioned artists. Artists should have a Web site (dedicated Web sites are preferred but we will also consider artists that have sites set up through eBay, Etsy.com and others).

What is a Double Dog Dare Ya?

These are art challenges, plain and simple. We challenge you with an assignment and you set forth to impress us with your wildest creativity. We will pick and feature a winner. Winners will receive various prizes for their efforts.

Our parent company (that sounds like we are huge, but its really just some chicks and one guy) publishes craft books and we may call on you to illustrate a project for an upcoming book. Even if you don’t win, you still have a darn good chance of getting published.

How does the Chick’s Guide find artists for projects?

We know several hundred right now but we also hop onto the information super highway, buckle up and zoom through looking for awesome new artist. We love sites like www.deviantart.com, www.etsy.com and even www.ebay.com. We Google and Yahoo! our way to superstar artists. This is a great way to find artists, but we realize that not every great artist has a Web site.

So, do you know what we really love? When artists reach out to us! That’s probably our favorite way to find an artist. So, if you’ve got some great ideas, you should let us know. Why should I submit art?

Because sharing is caring! You are a fantastically creative person and, darn it, the world should know! The Chick’s Guide would LOVE to feature you on the site. Plus, The Chick’s Guide is the newest branch of the Cantata Books (LINK TO cantatabooks.com) family. Cantata is always looking for fresh new artists to feature in upcoming books. So, this could be your golden opportunity to become a published artist.

How do I submit art? Do I have to send in the actual project?

It’s really quite simple. Just click here (LINK TO submissions page) for detailed instructions and current art calls. If you are submitting your art for us to review we only request a jpeg image. Most often for publication we will work with your images.

Can I add a link to The Chick’s Guide to my own Web page?

We’d be thrilled. And honored. And psyched. Let us know if you do, we’d love to check out your site, too!

What type of art is The Chick’s Guide looking for?

We’re equal-opportunity, baby. We want big art, small art, Goldilocks art (you know, art that’s just the right size), metal art, fabric art, digital art, balsa wood and craft-stick art, scrapbook art, bead art, photo art, word art…you get the picture. If The Chick’s Guide does request my art or idea and needs me to mail it to them, will I get it back?

Absolutely. Only in special situations do we require that an artist physically mail in the art. If those cases, we will photograph the art and immediately return it. The entire process normally takes 4 to 6 weeks.

When submitting artwork for consideration of publication you are representing and agreeing to the following: All artwork submitted is the creation of the submitting artist.
